Set up SMART scans

If you have a SiteLock Essential, Deluxe, Ultimate, or 911 plan, you can set up SMART scans to scan your website's files for known exploits as well as fix them.

If you have a Managed or Fully Managed server and want to configure SMART scans, instead see this article.

SMART needs to connect to your account via FTP to perform the scan and remove malware. This article shows you where to find the settings you need to properly configure SMART.

  1. Log in to your GoDaddy account.
  2. Click SiteLock.
  3. Next to the account you want to use, click Manage.

If SiteLock and the domain name are not in the same GoDaddy account, you need to verify your domain ownership before you can perform SMART scans.

  4. Click Settings on the left.
  5. Click Download settings.
  6. Click SMART settings.
  7. Click Show me the wizard.
  8. Complete the following fields:

    Field What to do…
Method for File Transfers Select FTP.
FTP host address Enter your domain name.
    (S)FTP Port Number Type 21.
User ID Enter your FTP username (cPanel / Plesk)
Password Enter your FTP password (cPanel / Plesk)
  9. Click Test Connection.
  10. Click your website's root directory. For help, see one of the following, depending on the type of hosting you have:
  11. Click This is it.
  12. Click Save.
  13. Click SMART settings.
  14. From the Automatically remove malware menu, select Yes, automatically remove the malware found.
  15. Click Save.

If there are sections of your website you don't want SMART to scan, click Manage Exclusions and configure those options.

During your next daily scan, SiteLock will download your website's files and scan them for malware and automatically remove any it finds.
